Thou Shalt Keep Learning

SUMMARY

Your whole life experience is an opportunity to learn. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn. Every experience you go through will teach you something. People who speak into your life can be your greatest teachers if what they say is in line with your values and beliefs and lifts you.

As I've taken you through this journey, I'm sure some things have been illuminated for you—those insights that pop up that you're then able to do something with to create a life for yourself that is different from the one that you had before.

I want to encourage you today to keep learning so that you can keep growing.

Are you green and growing or ripe and rotting?

Do you have a fixed mindset or one that is a growth mindset?

Well, today I want to help you to understand that "Thou Shalt, Keep Learning."

Your whole life experience is an opportunity to learn. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn. Every experience you go through will teach you something. People who speak into your life can be your greatest teachers if what they say is in line with your values and beliefs and lifts you.

Why do we want to continue to learn?

I believe that I will continue to learn things about myself, my world, and others right until the day I die. Because learning, for me, is an experience that brings joy and the discovery of things that you didn't know about yourselves.

As I've taken you through this journey, I'm sure some things have been illuminated for you—those insights that pop up that you're then able to do something with to create a life for yourself that is different from the one that you had before.

I want to encourage you today to keep learning so that you can keep growing.

I believe that perfection is never a goal.

It's not something that you get to where you arrive and go: "That's it. I know everything that I need to know now."

As for me, I love to get in rooms where I'm not the smartest person and have experiences where I don't feel comfortable, because in those situations I go deeper and I learn more.

What is it that you could do right now?

I'm not talking about going to get another university degree. I'm talking about something that's within your control—something that you could experience in the coming weeks that would teach you things about yourself, things about a particular hobby or interest, that you've got something within your business or your employment that helps you to do things differently.

The way that the brain works with your reward systems is that when you discover new things, it gives you feelings of delight. To do this, especially when learning and discovering things about yourself, you must approach it with the intention of moving forward.

It's not about discovering things that you don't like about yourself and then just letting it camp there. It's about learning those things and then learning how to move forward and do things differently.

You may or may not have liked your time at school. I loved my time at school. I love to learn. I love to grow and I love the social side of it as well. But just because you've left school, that doesn't mean you stop learning. Every year, I make it a point to learn something new that will help me advance to the next level in my understanding, in my thinking, and in my beliefs. This has led me to not only achieve greater results for myself, but those learnings are also things that I can help my clients, my family, and my friends with.

So learning is a good thing. It is something that must be done on a regular basis. Life is a journey of imperfection, continually improving and changing the way that you do things, the way that you think, and the way that you look at things so that you can create the life that you want to have.

Well, that's it for me for another week. Join me again next week, when we continue this conversation around my "Ten Commandments for Enjoying Your Life."

I'll see you then.
