Thou Shalt Be You
SUMMARY
Do you find yourself continually trying to be who you're not for many different reasons, whether it’s getting other people to approve of you or even living up to your own expectations?
People can read when you're not being you. People love authenticity. They love realness, and their meters for detecting when it's not there are really high (particularly right now.)
So, I want to encourage you just to be YOU and the YOU I'm talking about is the YOU that you're becoming.
This week, I will unpack with you my first commandment for enjoying life by helping you understand that "thou shalt be you."

Do you find yourself continually trying to be who you're not for many different reasons, whether it’s getting other people to approve of you or even living up to your own expectations?
Well, stick with me because we'll continue our conversation around my 10 commandments for enjoying life by helping you understand that "thou shalt be you".
For many years in my life, I pretended to be someone that I wasn't. For me, it was exhausting, continually remembering who I was pretending to be when I was with that person the next time I was with them.
This tripped me up many times -- I had to make sure that I kept putting on an act. I kept pretending in the same vein that I'd been pretending before.
Perhaps this is something that you're doing as well. Perhaps you are finding that you're not pleased with who you are. Therefore, the best thing to do is to be someone else.
Well, let me help you understand that not only is this exhausting, but doing this will not actually help you achieve the results you think it will achieve.
You see, I believe that every person was created and put on this planet to be who they are. That means that the collective of everyone put together means we can do what we need to do in this world.
When you play an act or perform, because you think you need to do that to get ahead, it takes away the true identity of who you are. And over a period of time, you even forget who you are. I know, for me, this was a major thing as well. I became someone that I didn't like. The challenge was that I was trying to become someone who other people would like.
However, based on my experience and the experience of the people I work with around the world, it actually has the opposite effect.
People can read when you're not being you. People love authenticity. They love realness, and their meters for detecting when it's not there are really high (particularly right now.)
So, I want to encourage you just to be you and the YOU I'm talking about is the YOU that you're becoming.
You see, I don't have it all together. You don't have it altogether. And that's okay. Part of life's experience is learning and growing through making mistakes and by doing things differently to get a different result.
So, the reason why I have this as number one in my 10 commandments for enjoying life is that this is the foundation for it all.
Just be you.
Over the next few weeks, I will continue unpacking all the other 10 commandments. As you put all these together, it will better enable you to get the results that you want.
Take responsibility for your own happiness and make sure that the rest of your life is the best part of your life..
I'll see you next week.
